NTS Ireland, which employs 58 people at Shannon manufacturing notebook computers for schools, has been sold to Manufacturing Technology Services by its Canadian owner as part of a restructuring plan.

NTS Ireland has been in receivership since last June following losses made by the parent company, Toronto-quoted NTS Computer Systems. NTS has also signed a contract with Manufacturing Technology Services to provide the NTS products currently provided by the former Irish subsidiary. NTS Ireland, based in the Shannon Free Zone, received grant assistance of £1.2 million (€1.52 million) from Shannon Development between 1997 and 1999.

It produces the DreamWriter laptop, a low cost notebook computer adapted for educational purposes for the British market.

Delays in shipping the product due to the receivership at Shannon were said to have adversely affected third quarter results.
