Monaghan Poultry Products was yesterday put into liquidation three months after the Department of Agriculture closed it down, due mainly to the company's failure to comply with EU health and safety regulations.

Following a meeting of creditors in the Slieve Russell Hotel, Co Cavan, Mr William O'Riordan, of PricewaterhouseCoopers, was appointed as official liquidator. More than 400 people, including former employees and union officials, attended the meeting, which lasted for over six hours.
