The Centre for Advanced Technology Training (CATT) has just produced 24 graduates from its PC maintenance and network training programme. Each of the previously long-term unemployed participants achieved A certification, an internationally recognised qualification.

The 25-week training programme was commissioned by FAS, to deliver the skills necessary for employment in the computer support industry. The programme included three weeks' work experience, with placements varying across the IT and financial sectors. Three of the graduates plan to set up their own businesses, and those on work placement look likely to secure permanent jobs.

The programme focused strongly on the skills necessary to achieve service technician accreditation. Additional training included Microsoft Windows NT core technologies, and administration to Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) level. Applications training included the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) exam preparation.
