Thousands of job seekers will flock to the Job Scene recruitment fair in the RDS next week to meet potential employers from Xerox, Dell and other exhibitors and receive advice on how to spice up their CV and interview skills.

Job Scene will showcase jobs from sectors including IT, healthcare, retail and leisure on Tuesday.

The organisers of the event, which has been held across the UK for the past 15 years, are bringing the job fair to Dublin for the first time to meet rising demand for new staff in the Irish services industry.

"We're holding Job Scene in Dublin because exhibitors were crying out for a place to showcase the jobs they have available," said Sarah Kitley, the marketing and PR executive at TJW Exhibitions in Taunton, Somerset.

"From an employee point of view, they become more than a faceless CV when they meet the exhibitors."

House of Fraser, one of 30 exhibitors at the event, will be looking to meet candidates for full-time and part-time posts for sales advisers, sales managers, a HR administrator, a stock handler and a visual merchandiser for its new store in Dundrum.

Michelle Curtis, House of Fraser's recruitment and training co-ordinator, expects Job Scene will make it easier for the company to fill its full-time sales vacancies.

"We get a lot of CVs in and it's hard to gauge what the candidate is like from a piece of paper," Ms Curtis said. "For us, Job Scene is a way to put a face to a name . . . We're getting a lot of students working at the weekend for us, but it's hard to get people for Monday to Friday."

Other companies looking for staff at the fair include discount supermarket chain Lidl, accounting firms KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and tour operator First Choice Holidays.

Xerox, the US maker of photocopiers, will be promoting its vacancies in shared financial services, technical support, and customer support for all languages at its European business support centre in Dublin.

Recruitment agencies such as Best Personnel and Richmond Recruitment will also have stands at the RDS.

Best Personnel is seeking accounting staff for the Dublin area, as well as medical staff for hospitals in Cork, Dublin and the UK.

It will be promoting vacancies at nursing homes and a Dublin psychiatric hospital, and is also seeking dentists to work in the south of England and Nottingham.

CV Ireland will be on hand at Job Scene to help job-seekers revamp their CV or to start a fresh one, which will help people sell themselves to a prospective employer.

With a new or updated CV, exhibitors at the job fair can then evaluate on the spot if candidates are suitable for the roles available.

Job Scene is open from 10.30am to 7pm on Tuesday.
