Improving communications with customers, particularly in relation to issues such as genetically modified foods, is among the challenges facing the food sector, according to the annual report of IBEC's food, drink and tobacco federation.

The implications of Agenda 2000, major changes in distribution in the Irish grocery sector and skills and labour shortages are among other issues faced by the sector, it said.
