American multinational GE Healthcare has announced a $10 million investment at its plant in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, which will see the site’s workforce increase from 450 to 500 as part of a plan to boost its manufacturing capacity by over 50 per cent.

Paschal McCarthy, managing director global supply chain at the company, described it as “a major confidence boost for our site”.

The announcement by GE Healthcare, which makes contrast media for use in medical scans, comes as the company prepares to celebrate 20 years of operation at the Carrigtwohill site which was established in 1992 by global pharmaceutical manufacturer, Nycomed.
