Allied Irish Banks has appointed Tom Foley, a former chief executive of KBC Mortgage Bank in Ireland, as a non-executive director.

The appointment brings to 11 the number of board members at the bank. Mr Foley (59) worked in various roles at Belgian-owned KBC Bank in Ireland and subsequently worked with the Department of Finance. He was a member of the Nyberg Commission of Investigation into the bank crisis and of the Cooney group in 2010 to devise ways of tackling mortgage arrears and personal debt.

The other directors are chairman David Hodgkinson, chief executive David Duffy, executive director Bernard Byrne, the Government’s public interest directors Dr Michael Somers and Dick Spring, and Catherine Woods, Jim O’Hara, Simon Ball, Tom Wacker and Peter Hagan.
