Court adjourns Anglo disclosure hearing

A hearing on disclosure in relation to the upcoming trial of former Anglo Irish Bank executives has been adjourned until next month.

The trial of the bank's former chairman Sean Fitzpatrick and two former directors, William McAteer and Pat Whelan, was before Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today.

A hearing, in which lawyers for the State and defence teams will debate issues surrounding the proposed evidence for the trial next January, was due to take place today.

Mr Fitzpatrick (65) of Whitshed Road, Greystones, Mr McAteer (62) of Auburn Villas, Rathgar and Mr Whelan (51) of Coast Road, Malahide have been charged with 16 counts of allegedly providing unlawful financial assistance to individuals to buy shares in the bank.

Brendan Grehan SC, defending Mr Whelan, told the court today that they were not ready to proceed with the hearing and asked for an adjournment.

Judge Nolan put the hearing back to the first day of the next legal term, which is October 7th.
