Family: Married with two daughters, Jean (23) and Marianne (19), and one son, John (21).

Career: Joined AIB Group in 1991 as group financial director and became AIB Bank managing director in 1995. Having qualified as an accountant, his early career included work in Italy and Holland with Price Waterhouse Europe, and with Coopers & Lybrand in London. He was managing partner of Coopers & Lybrand and also acted as administrator of the PMPA insurance group.

Why he is in the news: After 10 years at AIB, Mr Kelly retires next month.
