US air freight forwarding group Expeditors is to invest £13 million (€16.5 million) in a major expansion of its Irish operations.

The company is to establish a purpose-built office and warehouse facility on a 6.5 acre site in the Horizon Logistics Park near Dublin Airport.

The expansion will create 50 new jobs, bringing Expeditors' total workforce in Ireland to 230.

Expeditors' turnover in Ireland is set to reach £60 million in the current year from £51 million last year. The company's joint managing director, Mr John Bermingham, said that the new development at Dublin Airport is phase one of the company's expansion plans. Horizon Logistics Park is a joint venture between Aer Rianta and property group Dunloe Ewart.
