Exploration group Tullow has discovered further oil in a Kenyan well where it made a significant find in March.

In March the Irish-based oil and gas exploration group said it encountered oil in its Ngamia 1 exploration well in licence area 10BB in Turkana country. That was based on drilling to just over 1,000m. Yesterday Tullow said further drilling to a depth of 1,515m had revealed more oil. The company’s operations discovered a total of 100m of net oil pay, which refers to the thickness of the oil reservoir.

Tullow intends to drill the well to 2,700m.

Exploration director Angus McCoss said “the net pay encountered so far in Ngamia-1 is more than double that encountered in any of our east African exploration wells to date”.
