Eirgrid’s director of operations will take over as chief executive of the national grid operator in October. The company’s board announced yesterday that it has selected Fintan Slye to succeed Dermot Byrne when he retires at the end of September.
State-owned Eirgrid manages Ireland’s electricity transmission systems.
Mr Slye was regarded as one of the leading candidates to succeed Mr Byrne. In his current role, he is responsible for ensuring security and continuity of electricity supply in real time across Ireland.
He also has responsibility for integrating renewable generators into the existing grids in the Republic and the north.
Welcoming his appointment, Eirgrid chairwoman Bernie Gray pointed out that he already had extensive experience.
Mr Slye has master’s degrees in engineering science and in business administration. Before joining Eirgrid he worked for McKinsey in London.
