A discounted computer hardware and software package for third level students, backed by a special student computer finance option, was launched yesterday to boost information technology skills among graduates.

TechnoFutures Ltd, a company established to provide Irish third level students with computing solutions to suit their needs, has joined with the Bank of Ireland, Siemens and Microsoft to develop the TechnoFutures Initiative.

"Students can now get the computer they need and pay for it when they can afford it," said a spokesman for the initiative.

"Increasing personal ownership of computers among students will also ease the demands on computing facilities on-campus.
