Credit growth figures for August, released by the Central Bank yesterday, confirmed that lending in the Irish economy remains buoyant. But they are likely to have little or no impact on Irish interest rate prospects.

Private sector credit growth increased to 24.6 per cent in August from 23.1 per cent in July. Mortgage lending also remained buoyant, rising to 20.7 per cent from 20.5 per cent in July.
