Teddy’s Ice Cream to expand

Famous outlet to offer full hot menu from former Promenade Cafe next door

The famous Teddy's Ice Cream outlet near the East Pier in Dún Laoghaire is to expand into the adjoining Promenade Cafe. Kevin Daly of letting agent JLL was seeking a rent of €50,000 per annum for the fully fitted café unit with 139sq m (1,500sq ft) of space.

The letting means that Teddy’s will trade from the entire ground floor of 1-2 Windsor Terrace. It has been selling its famous 99s since the 1950s from what was formerly the garage attached to the property but will now offer a full hot food menu from the former Promenade Café premises. The cafe accommodates tables and chairs for 43 customers internally and 10 customers externally. Subject to repositioning of tables, additional seating for 15 customers could be provided internally. The cafe includes modern kitchen fittings, such as extraction, convection ovens, gas stove and countertops.

Teddy’s Promenade Café should benefit greatly when refurbishment works to the nearby People’s Park are complete. These include removing the surrounding park walls and building an overpass above the railway linking the park to Windsor Terrace.

The nearby seafront has an estimated annual footfall of 1.1 million and is popular with walkers all year round. This part of Dún Laoghaire has greatly improved in recent years, as much private and public money has been spent in an attempt to reinvigorate the seafront.
