THE FIRST thing that will strike viewers about The Mill House in Greystones – a property new to the market this week – is the looming presence of the original mill, a derelict, five-storey building with ivy climbing its sides. This building, they might be relieved to hear, is not part of the property so no immediate worries about upkeep there.

What is for sale is the original miller’s house dating from 1837, an elegant, late-Georgian home that has been extensively refurbished in recent years. The asking price is €595,000 and it’s for sale through Sherry FitzGerald where Eamonn Foley is handling enquiries.

Located on Mill Road, close to the local tennis and rugby clubs, the house has been modified from its original layout. Where once it would have had four rooms leading off a central hallway, it now has a large entrance hall that doubles as a diningroom. Tiled in pale flagstones and with an open fireplace, it has access through to the kitchen with its Shaker-style units and vintage Aga.

A separate livingroom, that runs the full depth of the house, is extremely bright, with its four tall windows. Upstairs, the original layout is more intact, with three bedrooms, the largest of which has its own dressingroom and ensuite.
