Energy efficiency now a driver of property prices

A recent trend in Europe, that is now spreading to Ireland, is that the value of any property is “more and more related to its measured sustainability and energy efficiency”, according to experts lined up to speak at the second Better Building conference.

Billed as “Ireland’s largest property and construction conference”, the event will be held on Wednesday, April 24th in Dublin’s Croke Park, and is sponsored by Ecocem in partnership with Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Green Building Council, Cultivate and the Sustainable Building Show.

Better Building aims to bring together estate agents, investors, architects, engineers and contractors to look at the opportunities for “greening” the built environment, such as passive house standards, innovation, green materials and even “green real estate”opportunities.

Speakers will include: Philip Lowe, the EU’s most senior policymaker on energy; Ronan Lyons, economist; Thomas Mueller, chief executive of the Canada Green Building Council; and Oliver Rapf, director general of the Building Performance Institute of Europe.
