The Committee on Public Enterprise and Transport seemed to enjoy the appearance before it of the Christian radio group - United Christian Broadcasters - last week.

The group has been seeking a broadcasting licence from the Independent Radio and Television Commission for several years and as part of its promotional campaign sent TDs and Senators a tape of music played on its London station - to considerable effect.

Fine Gael TD Austin Currie confessed to finding the hymns "very soothing", while his Fianna Fail colleague Senator Dick Roche was moved to declare that "political correctness" was the only reason the station was not on the air. However, other members were not so sure what was meant by Christian music. And in order to better inform them, a list of "household names" regularly played on the station was read out.

The radio delegation was met with a wall of blank faces with the names, Emmaus, Halcyon Days and the Hudson Taylors. But, that changed when one of the most popular artists was identified: former presidential hopeful - Dana.

The ingredients of a successful radio station? All kinds of everything!
