The president of University College Cork has called for a shift from an "incentive based" industrial development policy, to one which is knowledge based.

Prof Gerry Wrixon, who is stepping down as director of the National Microelectronics Research Centre, after 18 years to take up his new role at the helm of UCC, questioned the longterm sustainability of attracting foreign investment through State grants, low rates of corporation tax and tax breaks.
