The collapse in global stock markets has come at a bad time for drink and snacks group C&C ahead of its planned flotation on Friday.

In summer 2002 the group was ready to roll with its €1.1 billion flotation in July of that year but was forced to pull it at the last moment as world stock markets plunged.

Sources close to the company said the investor roadshow continued yesterday as C&C management met fund managers in Boston. They travel to New York today to meet would-be investors before returning to London tomorrow.

"Early indications are that it's going well," said one source close to the company, noting that C&C's advisers began taking bids for stock yesterday.

The group has set 5 p.m. Thursday as the deadline for receipt of bids and hopes that conditional dealings in the shares will begin on the Irish and London exchanges on Friday.
