Dublin-headquartered IT services company Version 1 has announced plans for a new technology hub in Birmingham City centre, creating 500 new jobs.

The Irish company said it has a growing client base in Britain’s West Midlands, and the move is in response to increased demand for its services across the public and private sector in digital, data and cloud solutions and next generation managed services, as well as specialist AI collaboration.

The 500 new roles will be in technology disciplines and include multidisciplinary software engineers, product design and delivery specialists and service management ranging from entry level to managerial positions.

They will be remotely based in the wider region but centred around the new hub in Birmingham City centre. The company has said it will start recruitment next year, when the new technology hub location will open.

Version 1 also said it has formed “close bonds” with Birmingham’s universities and further and higher education institutions to help grow the pipeline of local talent in the future.

Tom O’Connor, chief executive officer at Version 1, said the company’s work with organisations in the West Midlands area has “grown considerably” in recent years.

“This local expansion will allow us to embed our presence and continue to service the evolving needs of both our current and future customers,” he said.

Founded in 1996 by Justin Keating and John Mullen, Version 1 provides digital and cloud technology services to public and private sector customers across Ireland and Britain.

Its founders were bought out in 2017 by UK private equity group Volpi capital, in a deal valued at about €200 million.

Since 2017, the company has trebled in size, exceeding revenues of more than €255 million, and currently employing more than 3,200 staff.

Last year, Partners Group acquired a majority stake in Version 1 in a deal that valued it at about €800 million.
