The Duckworth Lewis method (which makes Finnegans Wake sound as straightforward as The Tale of the Three Little Piggies) decreed that the Ireland Under-19s Pool D match against Namibia in cricket's Youth World Cup Tournament at the Moors CC in Colombo on Saturday ended as a tie. Which may put the Irish into a reputedly less taxing Plate Pool, along with Kenya, Holland and the Americas.

Peter Shields won the toss for Ireland and by the time the weather entered the equation, Namibia had scored 186 for seven off 48 overs. Ireland's best bowler was Andrew White who took three for 31 off 10 overs and he was well supported by Jonathan Gardner who took two for 22 off five overs.

The D/L method then re-set Ireland's target at 128 off 36 overs, and reluctance by the lower-order batsmen to go for the bowling saw the innings end on 127 for five off the obligatory 36 with the tie declared. Some believe this was wrong and that a win should have been awarded to Namibia.

Dom Joyce was Ireland's top scorer with 43, while Andrew White contributed 28.
