Waterford IT 0-13 Cork IT 0-7 Waterford IT made it a day to forget for Cork IT who were making their debut appearance in a final at The Ragg on Saturday. The Waterford students were in control from the outset and in nearly all sectors were the dominant force.
Offaly's John Brady, Kilkenny's J J Delaney and man-of-the-match Ken Coogan were conspicuous in defence. Limerick's Ollie Moran and Waterford's Fergus Flynn ruled the roost at midfield, while up front Brian Dowling, M J Furlong and Setanta Ó hAilpín put the scores on the board.
Ronan Curran, staking a strong claim for a berth on the Cork senior team, was influential for Cork IT, but a lack of penetration up front was their undoing.
Waterford led at the break 0-8 to 0-3 with Moran, Mick Jacob, Ó hAilpín, Dowling and Damian Murray on the scoresheet.
Cork IT hung in tenaciously on the resumption, with substitutes Gary McLaughlin, Paul Tierney and Gerald McCarthy all splitting the sticks with good points.
