Walsh promoted and Young recalled by Kerry

ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONS Kerry make two enforced changes and one other alteration to the side that comfortably defeated Clare in the Munster semi-final for Sunday's provincial football final against Cork.

In the absence of suspended captain Paul Galvin and his injured predecessor Declan O'Sullivan, manager Pat O'Shea brings Seán O'Sullivan and Donncha Walsh into the half forwards, while the fit-again Killian Young, last year's Young Footballer of the Year, resumes at left wing back in place of Tommy Griffin.

The loss of Galvin and O'Sullivan is a big concern in terms of the half-forward unit's ball-winning capacity. Seán O'Sullivan is an athletic and experienced presence at wing forward - he was a regular on the side that reached the 2002 All-Ireland final - and, on the other wing, making his first championship start, is Walsh, whose energy and hard work made a good impression during the league in Kerry's progress to the final.

All in all, the side shows just two changes - the missing half-forwards - from the 15 that started last year's All-Ireland final against the same opposition and recorded a crushing victory.

Meanwhile, David Fitzgerald's first selection as Waterford hurling manager sees the much-speculated switch of Ken McGrath to full back confirmed. Fitzgerald changes half of the defence from the side that lost so heavily to Clare in the Munster first round last month for tomorrow's All-Ireland qualifier match against Ulster champions Antrim.

McGrath, who missed that match with injury, replaces Kevin Moran on the edge of the square - moving back from his customary position of centre back where he has played for most of the past four years and where he has been honoured as an All Star.

In a stronger looking unit, another All Star, Eoin Murphy, returns at corner back after a long-term injury in place of Aidan Kearney, who is still recovering from an appendectomy. The third change sees Brian Phelan, who started at centre back in place of McGrath, drop to the bench with Shane O'Sullivan coming in at wing back.

As selected, veteran Tony Browne returns to the centre back position from where he captained the county to All-Ireland under-21 success in 1992. The other change in personnel from the Clare defeat sees Eoin Kelly, another high-profile player to miss the first-round match, come back in at right wing forward.

Meanwhile, Ger Farragher replaces the injured Eugene Cloonan in the Galway team for tomorrow's All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Laois. Cloonan was hospitalised with blood poisoning a couple of days after last week's easy win over Antrim - a second occurrence in the camp, as Joe Canning was struck by the ailment last month but did line out for his debut in Casement Park.
