Colours match/Dublin University - 16 UCD - 13: Dublin University broke a 10-year hoodoo that included nine losses and one draw to shock UCD in last night's colours game at Donnybrook.

Trinity looked like rank outsiders with 11 newcomers to the fixture and situated in Division Two of the All-Ireland League. But they never let that get in their way as they launched themselves headlong into their great rivals for the full 80 minutes.

It was to their great credit that they bounced back from Fergus McFadden's second-minute penalty by going half the length of the field to take advantage of Shane Monahan's adventure in popping up on the opposite wing to finish in style. Johnny Watt applied the conversion.

It was helter-skelter, all-out attack from both sets of players. Strong forward play by UCD was rewarded with a penalty which enabled McFadden to leave the minimum between the sides.

The Ireland under-19 centre did even better just before the break, hurtling on to a pass from outhalf Ian Keatley to dive in beneath the posts. He converted for a 13-7 lead at the break.

UCD brought Leinster's Cillian Willis into scrumhalf for Brian O'Neill. That did not prevent Trinity from applying pressure. Left wing Killian Stafford and Monahan were almost in again before Watt followed a near miss with his first penalty in the 60th minute.

UCD's left wing Killian Lett almost duped Monahan with a slick piece of movement by the corner flag and Keatley twice bamboozled Trinity's midfield without significant reward.

Watt blasted a 73rd-minute penalty for an infringement at a ruck to level it up. Louis Burke received a yellow card for slowing down ruck ball with two minutes left on the clock.

Watt exacted a heavy penalty with his third three-pointer.

n In Division One of the All-Ireland League today Belfast Harlequins desperately require a victory over visitors Dolphin while St Mary's face a tricky game in Thomond Park against Shannon.
