Ian Wiley is hoping for a return to form next month after a poor run of results in canoe slalom races over the Olympic course in Penrith in Australia.

Wiley finished 34th on Saturday and 35th on Sunday in the K1 races in the Penrith Whitewater International after a run of bad luck. "In the first race on Saturday I broke a paddle and on Sunday I was just too tired to race from training. I didn't have the arms to keep control," he explained.

His next races are in mid-April and he will then take part in the first World Cup race of the year on the last weekend in April, also in Penrith.

The story was more hopeful for Galway's Eadaoin Ni Challarain. In the women's K1 she had finishes of 17th and 15th on the Saturday and Sunday.
