Waterford United earned themselves a quarter-final place in the FAI Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot-out (7-6) against UCD at the RSC last night.

Although intense and absorbing, this scoreless encounter failed to live up to expectations. Waterford had the better of the play but lacked the finishing touch, while UCD were dangerous, especially on the break.

UCD's Glen Fitzpatrick did have the ball in the net early in the second half but the offside flag went up in what was a close call.

In the dying minutes of normal time Eric Bradley and Aaron Moroney went close for the home side and Paul O'Meara was unlucky for the visitors after his shot hit the woodwork.
