Offaly footballers are hopeful that Vinny Claffey will have recovered from a hamstring pull in time for Sunday fortnight's Leinster semi-final replay against Kildare. "He probably shouldn't have played," according to county PRO Pat Teehan - echoing manager Padraig Nolan's words after the match. "But he didn't do any extra damage and he'll have three weeks to recover.

John Kenny, the wing back and Ireland International Rules player, is returning from injury but Teehan isn't expecting him to be available. "He'd be there or thereabouts for the Leinster final but three weeks wouldn't be enough. At least things are going in the right direction and people are getting better."

Ciaran McManus will be available again after suspension and dual player John Ryan will also come into contention, having come on as a substitute for the hurlers against Wexford last Sunday week.

Ryan limped off in the semi-final win over Clare with a twisted ankle and later learned that ligaments had been damaged. The team will be announced tonight and Paul Shelley, who also picked up some facial scars against Clare, is definitely fit to play.
