Offaly SH
Manager Pat Fleury has again delayed naming the Offaly side to face Derry in Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final curtain-raiser at Croke Park. The main injury worry is defender Brian Whelahan, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury during training on Tuesday night. The problem had curtailed his game in previous seasons but it is not deemed serious.
There is also a doubt over whether John Troy is fit enough to return to the starting lineup. Troy picked up an ankle injury before the Leinster final meeting with Kilkenny and before that he was out of action with a broken finger. As a result, Fleury won't finalise his team until after training tonight.
Derry SH
Emmet McKeever will learn today whether his appeal against the 12-week suspension handed down by the GAC last month was successful. McKeever appeared in Dublin last night to present his case along with the county's hurling spokesperson, Ann Sands.
The Derry defender was red carded during the Ulster hurling semi-final win over Down and was subsequently banned for a strike with the hurley, a charge he strenuously denies.
Exactly half of McKeever's suspension will be up on Saturday night, but if the charge of a strike with the hurley is thrown out, then it is expected it will be reduced to a month and he will be able to line out on Sunday. His case would normally have been heard by Croke Park on July 28th, but due to the timing of Sunday's game, was brought forward to last night.
