Hal Sutton, anxious to end a three-year title drought, birdied two of his final three holes on Saturday to grab a one-shot lead after three rounds of the Texas Open PGA golf tournament.

The 40-year-old Sutton shot a five-under-par 67 at the La Cantera Golf Club for a 54-hole score of 14-under 202 and a one-stroke lead over 1993 champion Jay Haas (64), Scott Gump (65) and overnight co-leader Justin Leonard, who shot a 69.

Brad Fabel and Mike Small were three strokes off the lead at 205, while former champion Corey Pavin heads a group of six players at 10-under 206.

John Maginnes, who was tied with Leonard after Friday's second round, struggled to a one-over 73 to fall five strokes off the lead.

With another birdie at nine, Sutton made the turn at 12-under, and he picked up another stroke by two-putting from 20 feet for a birdie at the 14th.
