Dominic Cork breezed back into his favourite ground and provided the aggression required to prevent England from suffering another dismal opening day against the West Indies at Lord's.

Cork's late spell after a 36-minute late afternoon interval for bad light transformed England's fortunes to leave West Indies on 267 for nine by the close, having raced to 162 for one.

When the second ball of Cork's recall was edged to third slip only to be put down there were fears his luck was out.

But in mid-afternoon Cork and Darren Gough claimed four for 26 from 17 overs either side of tea, and then three for 16 from 11 after the interval.
