When Jeremy Staunton stepped out on the Lansdowne Road pitch yesterday to win his first international cap he became the 53rd player from the Garryowen club to do so. Not only that but it meant that a Garryowen player had been capped in every position on the field.

Staunton joined Garryowen in 1997, as a 17 year old, and made his AIL debut in December 1997 when he starred in a 46-0 win over Galwegians. He has featured prominently in AIL campaigns since, as well as in Munster leagues and cups. The Staunton family have made, and continue to make, a big contribution to the Dooradoyle club. Jeremy's brother John has won the loosehead starting role this season, while father Willie is a former player with the club.
