Stage Five of the Tour of Britain was abandoned yesterday after a police motor-cyclist was killed in an accident at Newton, near Worcester. The policeman, a member of the escort team, was five minutes ahead of the race when he collided with a car 35 miles into the stage from Birmingham to Cardiff. "Prize money will be donated to the family of the officer involved," said a tour statement.
