Two schools more noted for their GAA traditions met in this Junior Cup match at Tullow, Co Carlow, yesterday and ended up deadlocked after a fine game. Wexford took the lead before halftime with a try by Barry Walsh, with out-half Donal Leonard adding the points for a 7-0 interval lead.

St Mel's came back after the break with a try and within two minutes were level through a try and conversion from out-half Stephen Lynch. Six minutes later scrum-half, Ciaran Connolly put St Mel's back in front, with an unconverted try. Then Wexford full-back Fran Hore crossed in the corner for a try which forced a replay.
