Those who thought the late nights ended with the Olympic Games in Sydney last year will be in for a shock come the World Athletics Championships scheduled for Edmonton, Alberta in August.

Ireland's best chance of a medal in Canada, Sonia O'Sullivan, has not yet decided which event she will run but the likelihood is she will compete in either the 5,000 metres or the 10,000 metres.

Accordingly, those who wish to see live coverage of her runs will be up well past midnight. The 10,000 metre final is scheduled for 7.05 p.m. Alberta time, meaning a 2.05 a.m. broadcast in Ireland. The 5,000 metres is not so late, with the final listed for 5.25 p.m. Alberta time, or 12.05 a.m. Irish time. If anyone wishes to see the 5,000 metre heats, then add seven hours at least to the starting time in Canada of 7.55 p.m. There are three heats scheduled to take place.
