Bolton Wanderers are close to signing France striker Nicolas Anelka from Fenerbahce, manager Sam Allardyce said today.

The former Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City forward would like to move to Bolton but he is still under contract in Turkey and Fenerbahce must ratify the deal.

"It's no secret that we are trying to sign him but we are in the hands of Fenerbahce until that side of the agreement gets sorted out," Allardyce said.

Anelka (27) has won 31 caps for France, scoring seven goals, but was not included in the World Cup squad.
