Andriy Voronin finally consummated his two-year love affair with Liverpool supporters on the day Djibril Cisse looked to have bid them farewell.

Voronin's arrival was officially announced today, with the 27-year-old having already signed a pre contract agreement when he was at Bayer Leverkusen.

Cisse, meanwhile, looks set to complete a permanent move to Marseille after the Mediterranean club reached "an agreement in principle" to sign the out-of-favour forward.

The 25-year-old France international spent last season on loan with the Ligue 1 club but remained a Liverpool player.

West Ham were rumoured to have made an approach but he now looks likely to sign a four-year deal with the French club, who today also signed out-of-contract Anfield colleague Boudewijn Zenden.

A Marseille statement read: "As well as signing Boudewijn Zenden, Marseille have also reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool for the transfer of Djibril Cisse."

While Cisse's Liverpool career draws to a close, Voronin cannot wait to get started at Anfield after 12 years in Germany.

A Ukraine international, he expects make his bow in a friendly against Coca-Cola League One side Crewe a week tomorrow.

However, it was while he was playing against Liverpool for Leverkusen two years ago that he was left in awe of the Kop.

"I will never forget that night, even though my team didn't perform as well as we could," Voronin said.

"Even for an opposition player, the supporters and the atmosphere in that stadium were unforgettable, and definitely the thing I remember most from that match.

"The Liverpool fans are world famous, and though this was not the only reason I decided to join this club, it was certainly one of the main reasons. I can't wait to play at Anfield in a red shirt."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez believes Voronin will give him a variety of options up front.

Benitez said: "He is a player with pace and good movement. He plays between the lines, between defenders. He is a good worker also and he scores goals.

"He's not the kind of player you can talk about strengths because he has many things he can give to us."

Voronin is not fazed at the arrival of record signing Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid or the threat posed by Dirk Kuyt and Peter Crouch.

He said: "The task in front of Liverpool at the start of every season is to win trophies and I want to be part of that. I want to help them achieve things.

"After being in Germany for 12 years, I felt it was time for a change, and then even more so when the offer came in from Liverpool.

"It's such a famous and big club — one of the most famous in the world. You can't resist an offer like that. As a striker, of course the main task for me is to score goals. That is my role.

"I am confident. If I wasn't confident, I would not have made the decision to come here. I feel I can adapt and be a success in the English game."

As well as forcing Cisse's departure, the arrival of Torres and Voronin have put question marks over the future of Craig Bellamy.

West Ham are believed to be interested in Bellamy, fearing they could lose Carlos Tevez to Manchester United.
