Valencia are lining up a £17million summer move for Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese trickster signed an extension to his Red Devils contract as recently as November, but the Spanish side will have him at the top of their shopping list when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

President Juan Soler is quoted in the Daily Mirror saying: "I want Valencia to do big things in the Champions League and Cristiano would fit perfectly with these plans. We will now speak with Manchester United."

Sir Alex Ferguson would probably resist any attempt to lure the 21-year-old away as he has produced some of his best form for the club in recent weeks, and Ronaldo could be joined at Old Trafford next season by Juan Roman Riquelme.
