Newcastle intend to announce tomorrow morning whether or not captain Alan Shearer's illustrious career has been ended by injury.

It is understood the 35-year-old underwent a scan on his damaged knee today and the results will be made public tomorrow.

Shearer was injured in a challenge by Sunderland midfielder Julio Arca during Monday's 4-1 victory at the Stadium of Light.
