Soccer:Shamrock Rovers will open the defence of their Airtricity League title at Drogheda United. Rovers, who are expected to appoint Stephen Kenny in the coming days after Michael O'Neill announced his departure having guided to club to back-to-back titles, travel to travel to Hunky Dorys Park on the opening day of the season.

If Kenny’s appointment goes ahead as planned, the Dubliner will welcome former club Derry City to Tallaght at the end of April before travelling north to the Brandywell in July.

Shelbourne and Cork City, back in the top flight again after winning promotion from the first division, begin their campaigns against Sligo Rovers and UCD. Monaghan United, the third side to come up as the Premier Division was expanded to 12 teams, will meet Dundalk in front of their home fans at Gortakeegan.

The new season will start on Friday, March 2nd and run until October 26th. There will also be a mid-season break to coincide with the Euro 2012 championships.
