Cork City have confirmed that former Longford Town boss Alan Mathews will manage the Leesiders next season after the departure of Damien Richardson.

The 42-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the club and will be unveiled tomorrow afternoon at a press conference in Beamish House in Cork.

"I consider it a great honour to have been given the opportunity to manage the club," said Mathews today. "I'm looking forward to working with quality players at a club that has such passionate supporters. I can't wait to get working and I look forward to a successful future with Cork City."

Mathews missed out on his third FAI Cup when his side were beaten in the final by Richardson's Cork team last month. He also won a League Cup and promotion from the First Division in his time at Flancare Park.
