Former Irish under-21 international Liam Kearney has completed his move to Shelbourne after leaving Cork City following the ruling of a recent independent tribunal.

Cork had been holding out for compensation for the 23-year-old but the tribunal ruled in favour of the former Nottingham Forest player who moves to Dublin, for free, on a two-year-deal.

Kearney, who will make his debut in a friendly against Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park on Tuesday, rejected a three-month move to Dutch side Heerenveen in order to join Pat Fenlon’s side.

He faces stiff competition at Tolka Park, though, as there is already a plentiful supply of wingers but Wes Hoolahan’s switch to Livingston has made it somewhat easier to nail down a regular starting role.

"Having lost Wes during the close season, Liam will be the ideal replacement for him on the wing," Fenlon said. "He’s an exciting young player who is bound to only get better and will add to our team."

Shelbourne’s two other close season signings, Greg O’Halloran and Sean Dillon, will also feature against Rovers.
