Cardiff manager Dave Jones has revealed he has been in contact with Celtic about Willo Flood’s proposed transfer to Parkhead. The 23-year-old former Manchester City winger, currently on loan at Dundee United, is believed to be on Strachan’s shopping list although no firm offer has been made.

“Celtic thought Willo was Dundee United’s player, so they approached them first,” revealed Jones. “Now Gordon has come to us, but no bid has been made.”

But Strachan refused to be drawn on a potential move for the midfielder, who has been on loan at Tannadice since 2007.

“There are just rumours and bits and bobs,” he said. “Dundee United are a club that I admire and respect and they have good players, a lot of good players.”

Hoops star Scott Brown has not been surprised to see Flood linked with a move to Celtic.

Brown has been impressed by the 23-year-old so far this season and fully expects Flood to be in top form again when Celtic clash with Dundee United in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup.

That is, of course, if Flood has not already sealed his move to Parkhead by then.

Asked whether Flood would be a good buy for the SPL leaders, Brown said: “Yes, Willo has played really well this season. There are other players in the team who have played well too, like Scott Robertson and Lee Wilkie, who has just signed a new contract.

“There are a lot of other players in the team who you could put forward to us as well.”
