Scottish Premier League review: Celticdropped 12 points behind leaders Rangers after a lacklustre display in a 0-0 draw Hibernianat Parkhead.
Gary Hooper and James Forrest both hit the woodwork for the home side, but it was an afternoon of frustration against a side the Hoops had beaten 4-1 in the Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-finals in midweek.
With
Rangers
winning 2-1 against
Aberdeen
at Pittodrie earlier in the day, Celtic’s title hopes took another battering and although they have a game in hand, the fans who booed them off at the end will have little faith in the Parkhead men recovering.
Celtic turn their attention to the Europa League and the visit of Rennes on Thursday night and manager Neil Lennon will wonder just what he will get from his team, who have showed the best and worst of themselves in recent games.
Certainly there can be no complaint about the result as Hibs were more than worthy of a point.
Steven Naismith was stretchered off as Rangers maintained their 100 per cent away record with victory over 10-man Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
A clinical finish from Kyle Lafferty after 58 minutes and a Nikica Jelavic penalty 11 minutes later after Darren Mackie had fouled Sasa Papac gave the Gers their seventh win from seven on their travels.
Richard Foster netted a consolation for the Dons courtesy of an error by Allan McGregor before Rory Fallon saw red for elbowing Dorin Goian in the closing moments.
The Rangers win, however, came at a cost with Naismith collapsing to the ground unchallenged in the first half after appearing to twist his knee moments after hurting himself in a collision with Dons midfielder Rob Milsom.
Tom Hateley’s late winner completed a smash-and-grab 3-2 win for
Motherwell
at bottom side
Inverness
.
The deflected 25-yard free-kick with four minutes to go came immediately after Caley Thistle defender Chris Hogg was shown a straight red card.
Inverness dominated for much of the game and broke the deadlock after three minutes when David Davis curled home before Shaun Hutchinson levelled six minutes before the break.
Andrew Shinnie put Inverness back in front after 76 minutes but Keith Lasley lashed home an equaliser 60 seconds later.
Hateley then got the late winner to give Motherwell a three-point cushion over Celtic in second place.
Kenny McLean netted his first goal for
St Mirren
as they scraped a narrow 1-0 victory over
St Johnstone
.
McLean grabbed the only goal of the game late on to provide one of the few highlights in what was a largely dull affair at McDiarmid Park.
The win allowed the Paisley club to bounce back from their midweek Scottish Communities League Cup exit to Irn-Bru First Division side Ayr United.
Hearts
manager Paulo Sergio was sent to the stands as
Kilmarnock
claimed a controversial 1-0 win at Tynecastle.
Sergio is set to appear before the Scottish Football Association’s disciplinary committee on Thursday but could now be summoned again for remonstrating with referee Alan Muir and being dismissed after 77 minutes of a frustrating afternoon for Hearts.
Ian Black was sent off after 16 minutes for the hosts, leaving his team-mates, whose wages are 12 days overdue, facing the remaining 74 minutes with a man short.
Dundee United
eased the pressure on under-fire manager Peter Houston with a 4-1 hammering of
Dunfermline
at East End Park.
First-half goals from Paul Dixon and Lauri Dalla Valle gave United a comfortable advantage but Andy Kirk netted early in the second half to pull the home side back into it.
However, late goals from Johnny Russell and Mackay-Steven secured victory for the visitors.
