Brazil looks certain to host the 2014 World Cup after Colombia, the only other suitor for the job, withdrew their application.

Officials from the Brazilian football association (CBF) were in Zurich today to submit the bidding agreement to Fifa.

Colombia withdrew its application yesterday and Fifa confirmed in a statement today that Brazil is the only remaining candidate.

The president of the Colombian FA, Luis H Bedova Giraldo, did not offer any explanation for his country's withdrawal in a letter to Fifa.

Brazil now has until July to provide Fifa with government guarantees regarding its ability to host the competition.

Fifa officials will then visit the South American nation in September before the executive committee confirms the host nation of the tournament in November.
