Blades look set to cut Kenny

SOCCER:Sheffield United have confirmed they have transfer listed Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.

Kenny's future had been the subject of widespread speculation in recent weeks after he was left out of the games against Wolves and Charlton for disciplinary reasons.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell confirmed Kenny had reported late for training and that the club would listen to offers for the 30-year-old.

Blackwell said: "Paddy and I had an amicable chat and we have agreed to this course of action. He has been here a long time and has been an important part of this club but if you turn up late for training there is a price to be paid.

"Maybe this will be a sharp reminder to him that he is part of this club and the rules that govern it.

Nevertheless, Blackwell insisted he would be happy for Kenny to remain at Bramall Lane should the club not receive a suitable bid in the transfer window.

He added: "I have great respect for Paddy as a goalkeeper and have always been amazed that people haven't been in for him before — and I hope nobody does now and that he will settle down eventually.

"We will put his name out and see if there is a club out there for Paddy Kenny. If there isn't, then it will suit me all round."

It is not the first time that Kenny has had a run-in with a manager at the club. Two years ago he had his eyebrow bitten off in a row on a night out in his hometown of Halifax, despite being warned by then Blades manager Neil Warnock not to socialise in the city.

That incident took place just weeks after Kenny suffered severe criticism of his part in the disastrous 5-2 defeat away to Cyprus, his last of seven international appearances.

He later asked not to be considered for selection by manager Steve Staunton. Last summer he talked to Republic of Ireland goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly about a return, but has yet to receive one from Giovanni Trapattoni.
