Uefa charge Mourinho with unsporting conduct

JOSE Mourinho could be handed a touchline ban after Uefa charged him with unsporting conduct regarding allegations that the Real Madrid coach ordered Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos to be sent off for time wasting via a message passed to them by Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek.

All four players have to answer the charge, which will be heard on November 30th, following the incidents during Madrid’s Champions League against Ajax on Tuesday.

Alonso and Ramos’s expulsions meant they would serve one-match suspensions in a group match against Auxerre next month, instead of the knockout rounds.

Mourinho has denied he had orchestrated the bookings.

“I spoke with many players throughout the game, not only with Ramos and Alonso,” he said. “Stories sell, but the important thing is the 4-0 win and the fantastic game we had. Let’s talk about that and not other things.”

Walters praised by Stoke boss Pulis

STOKE boss Tony Pulis has hailed the all-round impact Jon Walters has made at the club since joining from Ipswich in August.

Walters scored twice in the Potters’ 3-0 victory at West Brom on Saturday, taking his tally with his new club to four goals.

Having previously spent his career playing in the lower leagues, the 27-year-old striker – who also won his first cap for the Republic of Ireland last week – has so far adapted well to a higher level.

“Jon has not just been bought in respect of what he is going to do in the first team,” Pulis said. “He has also been bought as a player who will mix in with the group and his attitude and commitment to everything he does, both on and off the pitch, is absolutely first-class.

“The players have really taken to him. We have a good spirit at the football club and the secret is to try and maintain that spirit and togetherness. Jon has moulded in so well.

“Obviously we are delighted he has got four goals already this season, but it’s also his application and attitude around the place.”

United swoop for Lindegaard

ANDERS Lindegaard, the 26-year-old Denmark international goalkeeper, has flown into England to complete his €4.13 million move to Manchester United from the Norwegian club Aalesunds.

Lindegaard is due to take his medical examination today and, if everything goes according to plan, a deal will be concluded for him to move to Old Trafford at the start of January. He will initially join as understudy to veteran Edwin van der Sar.

Spurs' stadium plans get go-ahead

TOTTENHAM Hotspur’s plans to build a new 56,000-seater stadium were given the go-ahead by Mayor of London Boris Johnson yesterday.

The English Premier League club, who have also registered an interest in the taking over the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games, had plans for a new ground approved by Haringey Council earlier this year.

The €530 million development can now go ahead unless the government decides to intervene.

“I am content to allow Haringey Council to determine the case itself, subject to any action that the Secretary of State may take, and do not therefore wish to direct refusal or to take over the application for my own determination,” Johnson said in a letter to the North London council.
