ALAN SHEARER has been given the go ahead to make his Newcastle comeback against Chelsea in tomorrow's English premier league match. The England captain and striker came through yesterday's training session with flying colours and will return to action at Stamford Bridge, just one month after his groin operation.
Shearer had his first full Newcastle training session on Tuesday morning after Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan had said the previous day that Shearer was on course for a comeback at Chelsea providing he suffered no setbacks in training. His return is a timely one for the league leaders with strike partner Les Ferdinand several weeks away from a return to "first team action.
Meanwhile, Scottish international striker John Spencer yesterday left Chelsea to join West London neighbours QPR in a £2.5 million deal. The 24 year old Spencer was Chelsea's top scorer with 13 Premiership goals last season having been joint top scorer the previous campaign.
But this term the diminutive frontman has been frozen out following the revamp which saw Italian ace Gianluca Vialli partnering Mark Hughes up front.
Spencer had made clear his displeasure at the start of the season, and while Gullit had gone on record as saying that nobody would have to leave to balance the books, last week's arrival of a third Italian, £4.5 million Gianfranco Zola, clearly tipped the balance.
. Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson has slapped a wage freeze on his struggling first team squad until results improve.
Richardson has clearly lost patience, with City having invested heavily in new players during the last two years and another, striker Darren Huckerby, expected to move from Newcastle today.
His wage freeze also comes on the day that Coventry announced losses of £7.5 million for the last financial year and they now have total debts of almost £20 million.
