Impressive Lokomotiv Moscow held Real Madrid to a 2-2 last night in Spain.
The draw means Real Madrid have now gone six games without a win in a competition that they have made their own in recent years.
Real started well with Raul giving them the lead in the 21st minute when he nipped into the area, turned a defender and then threaded a neat left-foot shot under keeper Sergei Ovchinnikov.
But Real were too quick to ease up and failed to press home their advantage in the first half.
Ronaldo, who was taken off at half-time, spurned a host of clear-cut chances and it was Lokomotiv who grew in confidence as the game went on.
Substitute James Obiorah levelled for Lokomotiv three minutes after the break when he stabbed home after shrugging off two defenders and Benni Mnguni then gave the Russian side the lead when he fired home on 74 minutes.
But Raul popped up once again to save Real's blushes, bundling in a Luis Figo cross two minutes later and giving Real their first point in the second phase.
In the other Group C game, AC Milan claimed a narrow victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Red-hot striker Filippo Inzaghi netted the only goal of the game after 49 minutes on an ice-cold night at the Westfalenstadion.
And Juventus made light work of Basel last night, thumping the Swiss champions 4-0 in their Group D meeting at an icy Stadio Delle Alpi.
Juve cruised into a three-goal lead before half-time thanks to goals from injury-plagued French striker David Trezeguet, Uruguayan man-marker Paolo Monter and Italy international Alessio Tacchanardi.
Alessandro Del Piero converted a penalty six minutes after the break to pile more misery on the Swiss, who are rooted to the bottom of the table without a point.
A win for the reigning Italian champions took them second in the table behind Manchester United who they meet at Old Trafford on February 19th.
