THE only promotion issue remaining in the league is in the fourth division where the number of teams going up has yet to be finalised. Four teams will certainly make the jump, and more than likely that will become five.

The IRFU is awaiting an official response from Ballynahinch Ulster's qualifiers from the provincial league system. Richmond, Suttonians and Creggs have already accepted their invitations, so if Ballynahinch follow suit then five teams will be promoted, if not, then just four teams will go up.

As it stands, the fourth division has conveniently split at mid-table, with Corinthians currently fifth, six points clear of CIYMS. One game remains on the schedule - Trinity against Corinthians, which was postponed from April 6th - but that is irrelevant.

Indeed much of the action around the country over the weekend fitted into the same category.

In the second division, Terenure completed the formality of their promotion with Ciaran Clarke and Paul Hennebry both in good form against Greystones. They join Old Crescent - who won comfortably yesterday against Sunday's Well - and Dungannon.

In the third division though, the promotion battle went the distance with Skerries and Bohemians fighting it out, knowing that UCC would overtake one of them. As it turned out, Bohemians were the ones to lose out in a tense struggle where Jimmy Dempsey kicked the winning penally 10 minutes from the finish. That sealed a fine season for the club, and for coach Shay McGuinness who has successfully completed two consecutive promotion seasons.

Skerries now join Monkstown, City of Derry, Highfield, DLSP and UCC in the second division.
